Akita joined our family as a tiny fluffball from a family breeder, smaller than our Chihuahua/Pug mix, Mazie! She now rules the house alongside her three dog siblings. Equal parts protector and baby, she keeps us laughing and feeling safe. She's fiercely loyal, endlessly loved, and apparently likes collecting ER visits—this is her second one! ❤️ Her name stands for 'I hold A Key Ta Ya heart'.

Akita is facing an emergency. We believe she swallowed part of a toy and stopped eating for nearly two days, vomiting all day yesterday. With our AC breaking and recent furnace expenses, finances are tight. CareVet of All Pets in Grand Forks will perform surgery at 5 p.m. to remove the foreign object. She is our protector, our baby, and we just want our sweet girl home safe.

Akita is special because she makes me feel safe every day. She’ll howl at sirens and sounds like a serious protector, but the moment you throw a toy she turns into a goofy, playful puppy again. She’s affectionate with her family, always close by, and deeply bonded to us. She’s our baby and our little guardian all in one.

We’ve recently had major unexpected expenses, including a new AC/furnace (we just paid half yesterday), which has left us financially stretched. I’m also currently not working while finishing my degree. We’re doing everything we can for Akita’s care, but it’s a real strain.
