About this campaign
Albert is a 2 year old lab/boxer mix that was a stray in Tenessee. He was rescued by Companion Pet Rescue from the pound. We adopted Albert a little less than a month ago. We had to take him to the vet as an emergency several times because he had a bad cough. Only to find out recently that a lot more than kennel cough was going on.
Mr. Albert (as we like to call him) is part of our FOUR generation household. His favorite person is my 87 year old grandmother with Alzheimer's who lives with us. My husband and I also have a 6 month old baby, another 2 year old lab mix (Opal), and my mother that live in our home. He loves pets, to curl up with my grandmother in her recliner, and to lick our baby's feet.
With just getting Albert less than a month ago, this was a very unexpected expense as when all is said and done getting him well again. We also have a baby and help to support my 87 year old grandmother and mother on disability.
Albert had been treated for heartworms back in Tenessee, but yesterday (12/26) on an x-ray, we found out that Albert still has active baby worms growing. This is causing him to cough up a lot of blood. We were referred by our regular vet to a specialist Dr. Winzelberg at Pieper Memorial. She says that an ultrasound and echo will help to treat Albert and that he CAN get better.
He just loves to snuggle and also to tear apart stuffed animals and steal our shoes even when he's not feeling well. When we first got him into the SUV from the rescue transport, he already had his stuffed animal destroyed in our 15 minute drive home. He is such a cute and silly boy. There is not a mean bone in his body, and we just want to give him the forever home he deserves.
