I adopted Alex four years ago from our local Humane Society. I saw him in an ad on Craigslist and knew i wanted him, but couldn't afford the requested rehoming fee. I went to the Humane Society to see what dogs were available, and there he was, just brought in the day before. I renamed him from Star Lord to Alex, in memory of Alex Trebek.

Alex has been sick for a while. It started with a sort of cough that seems random but also happens when we go on long walks. I've been wanting to take him to a vet, but can't afford it. He's been getting slowly more lethargic and seems to have trouble eating. Today he won't go outside, won't go for a walk, and just lies on the floor guarding the pizza crust he can't seem to eat, and I'm worried.

Alex loves his stuffed ducks. He rips them open to pull out the squeaker and stuffing, then wants to play tug with the remains. He's a clear communicator, being mostly husky, and makes it very clear when he has an opinion on something. He's my emotional support animal and curls up in my lap whenever he thinks I need him. And when there's thunder.

I'm on a fixed income, disability, which I supplement with a part-time job. My total income is less than half the federal poverty level and barely covers my monthly expenses. I have Lemonade pet insurance, but it requires up front payment. I don't have it.
