About this campaign

*Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge*

Anubis’s horrific wound was left untreated – until owners finally turned him over as a “stray.”

We were contacted about Anubis, a cat that was “found” with a necrotic, infected wound on his neck. We could tell immediately that he had been suffering a long time. The finder shared they allowed the cat in their home when he showed up as an injured stray, but it was soon discovered that the cat belonged to the family. He was an indoor / outdoor cat who has been wounded, without care, for at least 3 weeks.

Anubis needed emergency medical care and rescue relief – and we knew we had to help. As soon as Anubis was in our care, we immediately hospitalized him. Doctors found that the entire area was infected, the flap of skin over the wound completely necrotic. Anubis was put under to remove the dead tissue and clean the wound.

Anubis will require an extended hospitalization, as he has a tie over bandage loosely sutured on due to the severity and location of his wound. He has to be sedated every few days to have the bandage changed, as it is an uncomfortable cleaning.

It is distressing looking at Anubis’ wound. We can’t imagine his pain as he battled this painful, open wound without help. Despite the discomfort, Anubis is very sweet, giving head butts and asking for pets from his medical team.

Your gift plays a vital role in ensuring that Anubis will receive medical care, hospitalization, healing and a family to treasure him. With your support, together we can be there for helpless, neglected animals in our community, like Anubis.
