Aoife was rescued from a kill shelter in Tennessee. She is the sweetest & has never met another dog she doesn't love, but she is afraid of most people--likely related to the scars on her face & legs. She startles at nearly anything and is terrified of boxes & bags. When she came home with me, I soon discovered she had giardia & tapeworms so long they crawled out... She had a rough start in life.

When i brought her home, Aoife was too scared to go outside but she wanted to. She would peer out the window for hours so i got her a little seat. She still spends time there but soon found her heaven on earth: the dog run three blocks away. It is her happy place. When not there, she loved to rip around the coffee table in the living room and ricochet off the couches like she's on a race track.

Aoife is a champion jumper. She loves other dogs and even once leapt over the four-foot-high dog-run fence to follow her best friend Stella home. When playing in the park, getting chased, she hops over other dogs like they are hurdles. When she gets really excited she will let out a little low pitched howl asking another dog to play or greeting her buddies at the gate.

Aoife wasn't in the best hands when i got her--she didn't just have giardia and tapeworms. We now know she had heartworms that were not picked up on. A year later the situation is pretty bad. We have been going to Bond Vet nearby but Aoife has also had three hospital visits this year already for her illnesses, lead paint she ate off of a radiator, and the leg of a toy that was "indestructible".

We have both had a lot of medical expenses this year, including her bladder infections and prescription food, but Aoife 's three day visit to the ICU last month has put a strain on our budget .
