Aphrodite (The Doggess of Love) was given to me by my hairdresser, who used to breed his dogs just to give the puppies away - to make people happy. She's the best gift I ever received! We live together with our other dog, Mo, whom she picked out, herself, after 3 months of my going to every shelter in the county, and her refusing to even look at any of the others I introduced to her.

Aphy is our eldest, so she's the Princess and I give her the eldest child honors; Mo is next, then the rescue cats. The dogs are a bit grouchy about cats touching them; so, the kitties wait until they're asleep, then snuggle up. Aphy recently slept with her head on one of them! She loves other dogs and people, though.

I have lost my entire life to my disease (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, EDS, POTS, fibro): my house, my hometown, those friends, my hobbies. Mostly bedbound and isolated, I can't tolerate any more loss; and even though I know she can't live forever, not ready for her to go.

Aphy developed a strange cough, many years ago. After two rounds of antibiotics (no effect) and two sets of x-rays, the vet said it was nothing. 3 years later, after she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and I had her records sent to that vet, I saw that her x-rays had shown heart enlargement, but the vet hadn't told us! I maintained her with herbs for years, but now she needs meds.

Aphy prances like a horse, and has always been a happy dog. She was very athletic, and, when Mo and I would be happy to return home after our 2 mile walk (when I was healthy), she'd always try to keep walking past the gate. She's very affectionate and we are close, like almost the same person, which would be hard to explain except to another dog lover. She is my rock.
