Archie is a 1-year-old Australian Terrier mix in Brooklyn, NY, who needs $2000 for urgent leg surgery.

Emily N. is trying to emerge from some tough times. She fought and won her battle with cancer but is now battling to pay off all her medical bills.

She adopted Archie from a shelter last spring; he was a ray of sunshine in her life. "We've had the honor of having him for the last nine months," Emily tells Waggle.

But Emily and her husband just got devastating news. Archie's bones developed incorrectly, and he needs surgery in both legs to correct the conditions so he can walk without pain.

Emily and her husband are panicking because they can't afford the operation.

"I am still paying off medical debt, paying for grad school, which is a requirement for my job as a teacher, and working part-time," Emily says. "My husband can barely provide for us solo, and these surgeries are serious unexpected expenses for which we don't have the funds."
