My boyfriend and I adopted “Dude,” now named Aslan from the Nevada SPCA in March of 2020 amidst the beginning lockdown of the coronavirus here in Las Vegas, NV. Wanting to save another life from the shelter, I opted to adopt immediately and bypass fostering. I’ve always loved the book “The lion, the witch, and wardrobe,” and so Aslan was a fitting name for this little lion that came to us.

Aslan was quick to make himself comfortable. We noticed right away how playful and kitten like he was, although being 1 year old when adopting him. He sleeps in windows and upside on the couch. We loves every single Amazon box and is happiest when cuddling on your chest, laying under a blanket. He’s become more vocal over the year and makes this “curious” hmmm sounding nose when called by name.

We adopted Aslan not only to rescue him, but to give him his best chance at life. Seeing him unable to enjoy playtime and cuddles because of his skin condition is heartbreaking. We are now facing much more serious medical issues that could worsen his quality of life.

Nevada SPCA never disclosed any medical info about Aslan being negative, other than what they thought was a good allergy. After a year of continuous vet visits and diagnostics, we’ve determined through Banfield Hospital severe environmental allergies, a heart murmur, & gastrointestinal issues. We have now taken him for a second opinion regarding constant UTI issues and a prognosis of treatment.

I’ve had many cats throughout my life, but this is my boyfriend’s first pet. He claimed up and down when we met that he didn’t like cats... and after lots of convincing.. after adopting Aslan, it was like this daddy/son bond, the sweetest thing to see. Aslan loves to snuggle with mommy, but you better believe that his purrs and nose kisses are reserved for dad. It’s like he knows dad’s soft spot.
