About this campaign

Athena, a sweet and innocent dog, was surrendered to a shelter in rural KY along with her siblings. She quickly took a turn for the worse and started having trouble breathing, leaving everyone at the shelter worried and helpless.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, the shelter reached out for help.

Unfortunately, they didn't have enough funds to provide Athena with the medical attention she desperately needed. It was clear that something serious was going on inside her tiny body.

One By One Animal Advocates couldn't bear to see Athena suffer and stepped in to get her emergency veterinary care. After an XRY examination, the heartbreaking truth - severe trauma had destroyed her diaphragm.

The broken and dislocated ribs makes the surgery tricky as they will continue to move even after repair. There is nothing that can be done for her ribs. It will be a long and questionable recovery, but the vets believe they can repair it. There will be a lot of pain associated with the unstable ribs, but she will get pain medicine for a long time to provide comfort.

Imagine not being able to catch your breath because there is no room for your lungs to expand. This is exactly what Athena is going through right now. With every labored breath she takes, she tries to compensate by using her abdomen. It's a desperate struggle just to get some air.

By supporting our campaign, you can play a vital role in saving Athena's life. Your generous contributions will go directly towards covering the costs of her much-needed surgery!
