About this campaign

After unexpectedly losing our beloved Zeus to cancer and swearing against getting another dog. We went to the shelter “just to look” and Athena came into our lives when we needed her the most. After three visits to be sure she was the right fit, she became part of our family and our hearts began to heal.

During some recent vet visits to treat some ear issues, it became clear Athena had other issues. We learned she had multiple masses, which brings back painful memories of losing Zeus. Athena underwent surgery on July 28th and all 10 masses were successfully removed. Now we wait and hope for good news. We are grateful we caught it early and looking forward to many more years of love together.

Athena is a gentle old soul who simply loves being by my side. Even while sleeping, she wakes to make sure I’m still there. She loves giving kisses, puzzle toys, daily walks, and relaxing. Her sweetest quirk is “trancing”—slowly walking beneath leafy plants just to feel the leaves brush against her. She’s incredibly friendly, loves attention, and never strays far from my side.

After spending more than $10,000 on Zeus’s diagnosis and care, the unexpected veterinary bills wiped out my savings and left me with credit card debt. I wasn’t financially prepared for another major expense, but I’d do anything to give Athena the care she deserves.
