Athena came into our lives when we needed her most. After unexpectedly losing our beloved Zeus to cancer, I swore I’d never get another dog. We went to the shelter “just to look,” but my daughter and boyfriend found Athena. She was found on the streets just having given birth Three visits to be sure she was the right fit, she became part of our family and helped our hearts begin to heal.

Athena’s ear check became something much bigger. We learned she had multiple masses, bringing back painful memories of losing Zeus. After surgery on July 28 at animal cancer center, all 10 masses were successfully removed. Now we wait and hope for good news, grateful we caught it early and looking forward to many more years of love together.

Athena is a gentle old soul who simply loves being by my side. Even while sleeping, she wakes to make sure I’m still there. She loves giving kisses, puzzle toys, daily walks, and relaxing. Her sweetest quirk is “trancing”—slowly walking beneath leafy plants just to feel the leaves brush against her. She’s incredibly friendly, loves attention, and never strays far from my side.
