About this campaign
Aubie came to us as part of a stray litter born under our home. The kittens were fearful, shy and a little aggressive if you got too close. All but one. (Being an SEC divided home, my kids named him Aubie.) I didn't want another addition to the menagerie of pets and people. he won even me over.
The years have gone, the parents have passed and my kids have moved out, but our beloved Aubie stays.
Aubie had a recent injury to his right rear paw. The vet exam and meds were the best we could do, so we hoped the injection and gabapentin would be enough. That was yesterday. Today there is more swelling, less walking and vocalization (unusual for my stoic kitty).
The vet offered a low rate for the x-ray, but now we need food & gas; having more vet costs (after we paid yesterday) is impossible.
Aubie is generally quiet, but loved to jump on his cat tree by the window. If the front door is open, he'll come to sniff... but he never steps onto the porch. (I think his observation places are enough for him.)
He likes the new cat grass I'm growing, scratching one special spot of the carpet (no matter the deterrent, so we let him have it) and he loves sleeping with me or with my 13yo.
We have no emergency fund, but we've always managed before. Medical emergencies have always been for the humans, so medicaid covers most major occurrences. In the last year, our debt has increased but our income has not. This is his first injury in 16 years.
