About this campaign
Augie, short for Augustus as he was born August 29th, joined our family December 1st of 2023. We were approaching one year after having to put our beloved Chewy to rest after 14 long, happy years as his heart disease became more than he could bear. We were ready to open our hearts to love another pup. We loved Chewy so much, and decided another mini schnauzer was the route we wanted to go.
Augie instantly fit right into our home and hearts. It was hard for us to keep his crate training going at night because he gets so snuggly. He is so sweet and friendly to everyone (including 4 legged friends). Our cat Izzy might say otherwise, but she is warming up to him and his curiosities. They give the occasional boop of nose kisses!
Augie is adventurous! He has loved the outdoors from day one-rain, shine or snow! He’s learning we get to explore more if we don’t try to play with the leash and instead take a walk! He also loves playing soccer! His other favorite toy is a fox stuffy, which we have named ‘floppy friend’ as it flops around in his mouth often!
We found out during Augie’s 1st vet check up, he had a grade 3 heart murmur, which warranted a follow up by cardiology. Following his exam by Dr. Sikorska at Pittsburgh Veterinary Cardiology, it was found that Augie was born with a heart defect, specifically severe pulmonary valve stenosis. This would require surgery to give Augie the best chance at a long, happy life.
We were not expecting such news with a new puppy. We are still financially recovering from our previous pups end of life vet expenses, as well as still grieving. We want to do all we can for Augie to be healthy, and to be able to enjoy many years to come as a family.
