About this campaign
When Ava arrived at a rural county shelter, staff noticed something was wrong. She never used her front leg. She was calm and sweet, but clearly in pain. X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth: Ava had been shot months earlier, and her elbow was completely shattered. Left without medical care, her body tried to heal on its own, but the damage was too severe.
One by One Rescue stepped in to help, sending her to a trusted vet. The injury had fused in an unusable position, and the joint couldn’t be repaired. While we hoped she might be able to keep the leg for balance, the vet warned that it would only cause more pain and could even lead to self-injury. The kindest choice—for Ava’s comfort and safety—was to amputate.
Ava made it through surgery with flying colors and is already adjusting beautifully. She’s curious, gentle, and beginning to play like the young dog she is. Even with one less leg, she’s proving that joy and resilience are still part of her story. Her tail wags a little more each day, and her foster family is showering her with the love she’s missed for far too long.
With your help, Ava can continue her healing journey. Donations will go toward her surgery, pain management, and follow-up care. Your support means everything. It is what makes second chances like Ava’s possible. Thank you for support!
