About this campaign
Sometimes, you can glance at a dog's kind eyes, and you immediately know how loving they are. The Waggle staff felt like that when they saw Barkley's pictures and video.
And so did Barkley's family seven years ago when they met him at an adoption event.
"We were looking at all of the dogs, but we weren’t planning on adding to our family," Brandon L. tells Waggle. "When I saw his human eyes, he looked right into my soul, and I knew we belonged together. It took some convincing with my partner, but as soon as we got him home, we both knew it was meant to be."
But a week ago, Barkley's veterinarian at Hemet Animal Hospital found a lump on Barkley's anal sac while he was having surgery to remove an embedded foxtail on his paw. A biopsy on the growth came back as an anal gland sac adenocarcinoma. His medical team wants to do immediate surgery to remove the cancerous tumor and test Barkley's lymph nodes to ensure it hasn’t spread.
It's a gut-wrenching situation for Barkley's family, who is having a hard time paying for his operation.
"After the paw surgery and biopsy on his anal gland, we can not afford what we know is best for him," Brandon says. "This was a surprise, and we are not in a position to pay for this. It breaks my heart to know we are breaking the promise we made when we rescued him."
It's critical the tumor be removed as soon as possible, and Brandon's family hopes you will help them save Barkley again. He's so important in their lives.
"Barkley loves playing on the beach and snuggling on the couch," Brandon says. "He has two dog brothers that love to play together. He is the one that likes to follow us from room to room and never wanders too far at the dog park, always looking back and checking on us. He loves his little sweaters in the winter because he gets chilly easily. He is just a sweetheart. He is so eager to please and always waits his turn to happily greet us after a day at work."
