Beans went through his first week at training camp and for a dog that everyone thought was dog aggressive he is doing very well! He is reactive but not dog aggressive and is learning how to be a dog and get to play with the other dogs!

I have a 4 year old pit mix that I pulled out of shelter. He was confiscated for neglect and spent his whole like on a chain. He is neutered, house trained and microchipped. His name is Beans and I’ve been working with him for a little more than one month. He knows sit and LOVES to play fetch with his toys. He especially loves Kong tennis balls that squeak.

I rescued Beans with the intent of training him to be a therapy dog and of course getting him out of that awful shelter and into a good home. However, even though he is a total gem at home he is very reactive and struggles with fear around new animals. I am not qualified to give him the training he needs.

I started this venture trying to do a good deed and save a dog while helping our a military vet suffering from PTSD as we have had a therapy rescue dog 'Chappie' for 6 years now and he means the world to us. I just wasn't expecting all of the additional medical expenses.

We unfortunately found out the hard way that Beans is not cat friendly and the bills to save her life ate into the funds I had saved for his rescue training. He also Broke his foot a couple of weeks after rescuing. All in all he has had to see the Vet a few times but is healthy now. The bills to get him there were more than expected. Things didn’t go as planned for his rescue but there is good news. Beans has finally made it to a healthy weight and has been excepted into a very good training camp. He struggles still with impulse control and anxiety. The best chance for finding him a perfect furever home as a therapy companion for a veteran is this camp.
