Beans is turning nine this year, and she’s not just my first cat—she’s my very first pet and truly my best friend. I received her as a graduation gift when I finished high school, and from the moment we met, we formed an unbreakable bond. Beans is the kind of cat who follows me everywhere and gets sad when we’re apart. I’m her person, and she’s my constant companion.

Today is my birthday, but instead of celebrating, I received the heartbreaking news that Beans needed emergency surgery. She had swallowed tinsel, which became stuck in her stomach, and the only way to save her was through an urgent operation.

Beans has a loving sister named Juno, and other cat siblings she loves and cuddles with everyday. She loves to sit on my dad’s lap, and has a favorite toy bunny that she takes everywhere she goes.

The cost of the surgery is overwhelming, especially since I’m a full-time student about to graduate with my master’s degree. I’m not currently employed, so covering this unexpected vet bill on my own just isn’t possible.
