About this campaign
Winter Break 2009, a rare white Christmas in Nac-o-nowhere. I see a pup couldn't be more than 7 week old exposed to the bitter cold right in the middle of Pearl St.
All the vets are closed for Christmas and shelters can't guarantee no kill.
Fast forward 5 days, pup is not chipped and no one has reported her missing. I realize, I now have a dog.
Bella is a Daddy's girl through and through. She loves to meet new people, but she has been my shadow since day one. The story of the first time we had to leave her for more than the length of a class, involves poop on the literal ceiling. She listens to most people, but if I'm around, you'll get side eye and sass.
Sky, her step-cat, have an agreement that basically involves ignoring each other.
Bella is "too smart for her own good"; whether it is going around obstacles, untangling her lease, or backing up, she figures things out. She use to spend all day on the 'off limits' couch. Then, when she would hear the keys in the door, she would sprint to her bed and greet you coming from that direction.
I've never encountered a dog that is more in tuned to patterns.
Sunday, while I was at work, Courtney called and said something is the matter with Bella.
Monday I stayed home with her. That night her leg swelled.
Tuesday, Valentine's, vet told us it is lymphoma and we had 2 weeks.
Wednesday, our oncologist says its not lymphoma but we don't know what it is.
Re-aspirate reveals sarcoma.
Steroids are working, but are very temporary.
As long as Bella greets me with a toy at the door, and has more good days than bad, she deserves a chance.
The cost of imaging to determine what the most appropriate course of treatment, if any, is $4,475.87.
She is still bringing me a toy at the door, albeit slower.
