Bernie is a 5-year-old Mix in Bloomingdale, IL, who needs $2,000 for Blood Transfusion/Bone Marrow Testing.

Bernie came to us after a friend could not take care of him and another dog anymore. We initially thought we were going to pick up another dog but when we got to the house we became smitten with him and him with me and my husband. He was our family’s first dog and makes our life’s better and happier everyday. We love our dog but cannot afford to figure out what is causing his extreme anemia.

He is a perfect house dog and amazing family dog. He is very loyal to us (especially Mama) and make our day everyday. I cannot imagine my life without him. He’s favorite thing is to be lazy with us and cuddle on the couch, but also loves playing outside with us when the weather is nice. Our family is truly devastated that we are likely to loose him soon.

I would do anything for this dog but our family can not afford the testing and/or treatment he needs. He doesn’t deserve to go like this. He is so young (5) and has so many years with our family to go!

So far we have spent about $4000 on blood transfusions and hospital stays. Bernie has developed extreme anemia and we were not able to figure out why. We are treating for an immunity problem at the moment but it may be a more serious bone marrow problem. We do not have the funds to test and treat a bone marrow problem so we are now at our last rope and have him home to stay comfortable.

Bernie has such character, besides his near human eyes you can almost always know what he’s thinking. He is very intelligent and always willing to do as he’s told for love and affection. He is always at Mama’s side and helps her deal with her anxiety and depression, without even trying. When he jumps on our lap to cuddle you know he’s trying to cheer you up and show you that he loves you.
