This sweet cat named Beth had been living outside for weeks and was being cared for by a kind resident who noticed she was pregnant and in need of help. When her condition began to declined—as they later learned, she was stuck in active labor—she was brought to the local shelter where they learned of her plight.
It was immediately clear something was horribly wrong. An amniotic sac was partially protruding, and her hind end was infested with maggots—likely from lying in the heat, exhausted and exposed, struggling to give birth on her own. Beth was rushed to the veterinary partner of RBARI, where her situation quickly escalated into an emergency. One of the kittens was lodged in a breech position, and Beth required an emergency c-section to survive.
Thanks to the fast action of the team and expert care she received, Beth made it through—and incredibly, all five of her babies survived as well. Two of the kittens were tiny and fragile, and for a time, they weren’t sure they’d pull through. But with love, warmth, and round-the-clock care in one of our amazing foster homes, every single one is now doing great. Beth is now healing well, and her babies are growing stronger every day.
But this emergency care came at no small cost, and with the needs of 6 total cats, RBARI needs your help urgently to help care for these babies. Will you please help them on their healing journey?
