I am a colony caretaker who has been doing TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) and rescue work for the past 18 years. Over the last 20 years, I have personally adopted out 175 cats and 10 dogs—all funded out of my own pocket.
Unfortunately, I’ve reached a point where I can no longer afford to cover veterinary expenses on my own. While I am no longer taking in new rescues, I remain fully responsible for my own cats and the rescues currently in my care. At this time, five of my cats are in need of veterinary treatment.
One of them is Bodhi. I rescued him eight years ago in Long Island, NY, when he was severely emaciated and close to death. Neighbors told me he had been abandoned when his owners moved, and no one fed him for several months before I found him. I brought him home to Virginia, where he now lives a comfortable life as a spoiled 16-year-old senior. He enjoys warm, heated beds, good food, and plenty of siblings to grumble at. Despite his age, Bodhi is still a spry old man. However, he urgently needs a dental cleaning with extractions scheduled for January. The estimated cost for this procedure is $1,100.
