Bonjour Is Hurting — and He Needs Us 💔

When Bonjour was rescued by Baw Baw Animal Welfare, he wasn’t able to stand, walk, or even shift his body without crying out in pain. His small body had been through more than anyone realized — and every movement reminded him of it.

Bonjour arrived at the clinic terrified and suffering, with weakness in his back legs and injuries so severe they left him unable to move normally. X-rays later revealed the heartbreaking truth: both a front leg and a back leg are completely broken.

Despite the pain, Bonjour has been incredibly gentle. He still looks up at his caregivers with trusting eyes — as if asking whether this is finally the place where the hurting stops.

Right now, Bonjour is receiving strong pain medication and supportive care to keep him comfortable while his body stabilizes. He is being watched closely, hour by hour, as the team prepares him for what comes next.

Once he is strong enough, Bonjour will need surgery under general anesthesia to repair his broken limbs and give him a real chance at walking — and living — without pain. His recovery won’t be easy, but it \_is\_ possible.

2/12/26 Update

After enduring unimaginable pain from multiple broken limbs, Bonjour bravely underwent surgery to repair his injuries. His procedures were successful, including later pin removal, and he was discharged into our sanctuary to continue his recovery. It was a hopeful step forward, and we were so proud of how far he had come.

Unfortunately, Bonjour later became unwell and required re-hospitalization.

After further testing and evaluation, he has now been diagnosed with tick fever and canine distemper. He is currently hospitalized and is receiving intensive treatment, supportive care, and close monitoring from the veterinary team.

This is a serious setback in an already long and difficult journey. However, Bonjour has proven time and again that he is a fighter. From surviving devastating fractures to enduring major surgery, he has shown incredible resilience.

Right now, our focus is on stabilizing him, managing his symptoms, and giving him every possible chance to recover once again. His medical team is watching him closely and adjusting treatment as needed.
