About this campaign
I adopted Bookie an American bulldog/ terrior mix 9 years ago from a shelter in TN. He is currently 10 yrs old and 80lb . He was diagnosed with IVDD 4years ago. The 1st time was stage 2. He had a flare up last year and it is stage 5. He is partially paralyzed from his waist down. He has to be in a wheel chair to walk and go to the bathroom. I take care of him 24/7.
Bookie loves everyone in the house. We have two other dogs and two cats. He loves playing with the other dogs. He tries to “walk” but for the most part he drags his hind legs and chases them. He is curious about the cats but never bothers them.
Bookie is so special to me because he has been there with me throw all my ups and downs. He is scared of sounds from thunder to microwave beeps but all he needs to to sit with mom and feel better. It makes me smile.
With his IVDD this past year he has had reoccurring antibiotic resistant UTIs. After about 7 months of ona nc off medication we took him to NC State Vet Hospital to see if they could find an underlying cause. We have already spent almost $4k for ultrasounds testing cultures and bladder flushing. His issue is he has crystals in his bladder he can’t pass.
The Vet wants to him eat a specific dog food for the rest of his life. It is suppose to dissolve the crystals he can’t pass and help him pee more. With him being a bigger dog the food alone will be between 200/250 a month not including the 4K already spent or other animals
