Help Boone Recover From a Devastating Wound

This sweet baby was found alone in a ditch with a devastating wound that had become infested with maggots. A concerned person spotted him suffering there and posted online asking for help, hoping someone could save the tiny puppy before it was too late. When we saw the post, we immediately rushed out to find him.

What we discovered was heartbreaking. Boone was weak, covered in filth, and severely injured. He was quickly transported to Vergi 24/7 Emergency Hospital, where the veterinary team determined he was dangerously anemic and fighting for his life.

The veterinary staff moved quickly, removing the maggots, cleaning his wound, and administering a lifesaving blood transfusion. Thankfully, Boone’s tiny body responded well. His PCV is climbing daily, the tissue remains pink and healthy, and so far he has avoided surgical debridement. But Boone's recovery is far from over.

He will need ongoing veterinary care, daily bandage changes, medications, and weeks of wound management as he continues healing in foster care. These critical treatments come at a significant cost, and we urgently need your help to give Boone the future he deserves

5/29/26 Update

Boone is now recovering in a loving foster home, where he is soaking up all the attention and care he can get. His foster mom is doing an amazing job helping him through the healing process. While Boone definitely does not enjoy his bandage changes, he is tolerating them like a champ, and his wound continues to heal well.

His recovery is far from over, however. In addition to the large wound that required intensive treatment, Boone has numerous smaller wounds and scabs extending from his head to his tail. These injuries will take time to fully heal, and he will continue to need ongoing wound care, medications, and veterinary monitoring in the weeks ahead.

It is heartbreaking to think about the rough start Boone had in life, but we are incredibly thankful that he was found, rescued, and given a chance to recover. Today, he is safe, loved, and finally getting the care he deserved all along.

6/14/26 Update

Just over a month ago, Boone was found alone in a ditch, covered in wounds and fighting for his life. The largest wound on his back had become infested with maggots, and he was severely anemic, weak, and suffering. At the time, we didn't know if this tiny puppy would survive.

Today, we are thrilled to share a completely different story.

Thanks to emergency veterinary care, countless bandage changes, medications, foster care, and an incredible amount of love, Boone has made an amazing recovery. The horrific wound that once covered much of his back has healed beautifully, leaving behind only the tiniest scar. If you look at the final photo, you'll see just how remarkable his transformation has been.

Boone is now healthy, happy, and ready for the next chapter of his life. In fact, this sweet boy is currently on his way to Nickel City Canine Rescue, where he will begin his search for the loving forever home he has always deserved. We have no doubt that his playful personality, resilience, and loving spirit will win hearts in no time.
