About this campaign

Hand to Paw

This is Boonrod, a street dog in Lamphun Thailand, who was hit by a car and suffered a broken pelvis and subsequent hernia (a tear in the muscles that is allowing intestines to come out in ways they shouldn’t).

Boonrod ended up needing to go into emergency surgery - we were hoping to wait until he was less severely anemic but there were increasing problems with his bladder (which had been pushed out of the muscle wall and was twisted near the tailbone, bulging out with a ball of intestines) and this was creating increasing issues with his kidneys and liver.

So in spite of it not being ideal surgery conditions, in order to try and save his life, we had to take a risk. Since his bladder was pushed up backwards near his tail for a while, in spite of it having been placed back to a normal position, he struggled to urinate on his own. He is taking supplements and requires manual support to express urine but the doctor suspects this is temporary.

He has recovered well from this first procedure but still requires hip surgery. Despite being in immense pain, Boonrod is such a sweet, loving dog. Hand to Paw helps street dogs like Boonrod when no one else will. Please donate to help Boonrod get his second chance.

Update 9/1/2024:
Boonrod is doing extremely well! He is feeling much better now that his intestines and bladder are back where they are supposed to be. Now that he is strong enough, Boonrod is going in today for a second surgery to repair his bones. We are hopeful this will be his final surgery and he'll be completely healed soon!
