About this campaign
We adopted Bootsie along with his friend Sunny as kittens, from the Hawaii Humane Society. He has become a big, chubby cat while his orange companion is more slender. After having them for a few months we installed a “catio” they can use to have the experience of being outside our beach house while still being enclosed.
Bootsie is the more shy of our two cats but also the more loving one. He loves to “play fight” with Sunny and is amusingly agile for such a big cat. He is very well behaved, not always trying to get out of the house the way Sunny does! We have all become very fond of him. He likes to curl up on the back of the couch and watch tv with us.
The special thing about Bootsie is the way he combines being a big, heavy cat with being very gentle and shy. One very amusing thing he does is, when he lies down on our wood floors and we pet his belly, he will kick on our feet with his hind legs causing him to slide along the floor. He also loves to lie flat on his back on the floor with his belly completely exposed, also very funny.
Bootsie was acting lethargic and having trouble getting anything to come out in the litter box. He was also not wanting to be picked up and mewing plaintively. We realized something was seriously wrong and rushed him to the animal hospital, where he was diagnosed with a blocked bladder. He had to have surgery to unblock it and other treatments for his damaged kidneys.
We had no idea veterinary fees were as high as they are, and the bill for several thousand dollars comes on top of some other recent unexpected bills for car repairs. My daughter especially loves this cat and will be devastated if he does not survive.
