About this campaign

Bowie deserved compassion. Instead, he was abandoned to suffer alone.

When rescuers with Paws & Claws Animal Welfare Society found him on the streets, they were horrified by the condition he was in. Bowie was weak, exhausted, and in obvious pain. He had a fractured hind leg and a large, severe wound between his thighs that had become dangerously infected.

Even more heartbreaking, the wound was infested with maggots. As they fed on his flesh, Bowie’s condition rapidly worsened. He developed a high fever, stopped eating, and became so weak that he could barely fight for himself. Without immediate veterinary care, he would not have survived much longer.

Veterinarians believe Bowie’s injuries may have been caused by intentional harm before he was abandoned and left without help. Alone on the streets, his untreated wounds deteriorated until they became life-threatening.

Today, Bowie is finally safe. He is hospitalized and receiving intensive veterinary treatment, including wound care, antibiotics, pain management, fluids, diagnostic testing, and ongoing monitoring. His medical team is also evaluating the best course of treatment for his fractured leg once he is stable enough to continue his recovery.

Bowie has endured unimaginable pain and neglect, but despite everything, he continues to fight.

Paws & Claws Animal Welfare Society is committed to giving Bowie every chance at healing, but the cost of emergency care and hospitalization is significant.

After everything Bowie has suffered, he deserves the opportunity to heal in safety and experience kindness for the first time in a long time.

Please donate today and help Bowie leave his painful past behind. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings him one step closer to recovery.

6/25/26 Update

With heavy hearts, we share that Bowie has passed away. When Bowie was found, he was suffering from horrific injuries no animal should ever endure. He was weak, emaciated, battling a severe infected wound, a fractured leg, and the devastating effects of prolonged neglect. Thanks to your generosity, he was immediately rushed into veterinary care where he received pain medication, antibiotics, wound treatment, supportive care, and the compassion he had been denied for far too long.

As Bowie’s medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize him, they discovered another battle raging inside his tiny body. It was unknown at intake that Bowie was suffering from panleukopenia, a highly contagious and often deadly viral disease that is especially devastating to vulnerable cats. Despite aggressive treatment and every effort made to save him, his fragile body simply could not overcome the combination of severe trauma, infection, and illness.

While we are devastated by this outcome, we take comfort in knowing that Bowie did not die alone on the streets. Because of your support, his final days were spent surrounded by people who cared deeply about him. He knew warmth, safety, gentle hands, full meals, and love. He was treated with dignity and compassion every step of the way.

We are profoundly grateful to everyone who donated, shared his story, and kept Bowie in their thoughts. Although we could not give him the future he deserved, together we gave him something incredibly important: kindness when he needed it most. Thank you for helping us be there for Bowie. We will carry his memory with us always.
