About this campaign
A little over 2 years ago on a sunny summer day, I walked into the Brandywine Valley SPCA and Bowie (formerly Barnes) immediately caught my eye. His sweet and gentle nature, fun personality captured my attention and as I played with him and watched him "sit" for treats, I fell in love with him. I quickly sent Ray photos and videos, already knowing that he was meant to be a member of the family.
Bowie is truly living his best life! He spends his days sleeping on what has become "his spot" on the sofa, enjoying walks around West Hollywood and is often treated to bites of leftover dinner including his favorite, steak! He loves the company of people, especially joining us at a friend's house for a BBQ where he can roll in the grass and eat scraps of food.
After already paying so much for diagnostic appointments and imaging, this surgery seems like an insurmountable expense yet I wonder how can we let our precious, otherwise healthy and happy, Bowie suffer daily in pain when he has years to live? This surgery is crucial.
In August, Bowie developed a significant limp that has not been helped by medication or rest. Stoic and stubborn, he doesn't let the pain to stop him from enjoying walks. Dr. Strom, an Orthopedic Surgeon at MASH sent Bowie for a bone scan which revealed that Bowie is suffering from a type of elbow displaysia and needs arthroscopic surgery to relieve pain and cure the limp so he doesn't become lame
They say wine gets better with age, so does Bowie. He continues to amaze me with what a wonderful and well behaved dog he is. I can't help but love seeing him happy and wanting to spoil him after spending such a significant time in the shelter we also love to treat him to new experiences like trips to the beach.
