When we found her, Bubbles was lying helplessly on the street with her eight tiny puppies. Our vets suspected life-threatening conditions such as hypoglycemia (dangerously low blood sugar after giving birth), eclampsia (a calcium deficiency often fatal in nursing mothers), or even distemper (a viral disease). To stabilize her, we began urgent treatment, including an antibiotic, a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation, glucose, B12, and other medications.
