About this campaign

Bucky Barnes nearly lost one of his nine lives and now needs your help to have life-saving surgery.

An emergency call came into One by One Animal Advocates: Someone found a beautiful orange-colored cat in their yard. His leg was so mangled a bone was sticking out. The organization raced Bucky Barnes to the emergency room. It turned out he had a compound fracture on one of his front legs; that's what caused the bone to be exposed. He also had a broken back leg and a bleeding puncture wound in his groin area. The veterinarian thinks another animal attacked Bucky, and he was languishing in pain for two to three days until he was found.

"When I heard all this, I was so worried," Heather A., with One by One Animal Advocates, tells Waggle. "I was thinking, 'Can he be saved?'"

After the ER's medical team stabilized Bucky, gave him IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medications, and consulted with specialists, the answer was: Yes, he can be saved.

Bucky needs surgery at the Proctorville Animal Clinic to amputate his front leg and set his back leg, so it heals properly. Once Bucky recovers, he's expected to be able to get around just fine on three legs and have a long life ahead.

One by One is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations to pay for the medical care of animals the group saves. They are trying to raise the money as fast as they can so Bucky can get his surgery.

"I can't imagine how this cat felt. He was losing blood from his groin injury and probably crawled, trying to get help because he could not walk," Heather says. "Bucky shows us how resilient animals are, and their will to fight to live. Our goal and mission are to give them the opportunity and means to do so."
