Friendly Buddy Was Left to Suffer — Help Him Heal

Meet Buddy, a sweet seven-year-old boy who still believes in kindness, even after being left behind. The team at Pumpkin's Rescue Club believes Buddy may have been abandoned because of how friendly he is. When they found him, he was severely malnourished and suffering from mange — but despite everything, he greeted his rescuers with trust instead of fear.

He was so ready to be helped that they were able to simply pick him up and place him in a carrier. No struggle, no resistance — just relief. At the veterinary clinic, Buddy calmly accepted a medical bath without a fight. Even after all he’s endured, he remains incredibly sociable, gentle, and just a little shy. He’s truly a sweetheart who clearly wants nothing more than love and comfort.

Now that Buddy is safe, he needs a thorough medical evaluation to ensure he can move forward into a healthy future. As a senior-leaning cat, he requires blood work to check his overall health, treatment for his skin, and a full exam to determine whether he needs dental care. These important steps will help him recover fully and prepare him for the loving life he deserves.

4/23/26 Update

We have some really wonderful news to share about Buddy! He recently had his full lab work completed, and we’re so relieved to report that everything came back looking good. Even better—Buddy does not need a dental procedure, which is such a huge win for this sweet boy and helps keep his recovery a little easier on him.

Buddy is still being treated for his mange, but the improvement has been incredible. His skin is healing, he’s becoming more comfortable each day, and you can truly see the difference in how he feels. The discomfort he once lived with is slowly being replaced with relief.

And through it all, Buddy continues to be exactly who he’s always been—gentle, trusting, and full of quiet love. Your support is what made this progress possible. Because of you, Buddy is getting the care he needs and the chance to fully heal.

5/4/26 Update

Buddy is settling into his foster home and slowly beginning this new chapter of his life. While he is still a bit cautious and not yet a fan of being picked up, we can already see such an incredible difference in him. He looks healthier, stronger, and so much more comfortable than the fragile boy we first rescued.

His body is healing, but now we are focusing on something just as important — helping Buddy feel fully safe around people again. After everything he has been through, it’s understandable that he needs time. We are giving him the patience, love, and gentle reassurance he deserves so he can continue building confidence and learning that he will never be abandoned again.

Each day brings a little more progress, and once Buddy is more comfortable and secure, we will begin the search for the forever home this sweet boy has always deserved.

7/15/26 Update

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Buddy has sadly passed away.

After everything he had endured before coming into our care, Buddy finally experienced something every animal deserves—kindness, safety, and love. In his foster home, he began to heal, growing stronger each day and slowly learning to trust again. While he was still timid and preferred to keep all four paws on the ground, we watched him become healthier, more comfortable, and more at peace than when he first arrived.

We had hoped Buddy's story would end with a forever family of his own. Instead, we are grateful that his final chapter was one filled with compassion rather than fear. He knew gentle hands, a warm bed, regular meals, and people who cared deeply about his wellbeing.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Buddy was never alone. He was cherished every step of the way, and because of your generosity, he received the medical care, foster support, and love he deserved during his time with us.
