Buddy's Battle: Give Him the Second Chance He Deserves

When ThisIsHouston found him, this tiny puppy—barely four or five months old—was clinging to life by the thinnest thread. He was skeletal, his body stripped of any hint of muscle or fat. Every bone was a testament to unimaginable cruelty, every breath a struggle to survive. But despite the odds, Buddy was still fighting—*clinging* to his second chance.

From the moment they laid eyes on this precious boy, the rescuers at ThisIsHouston knew they had to fight. While his breathing was faint and there was no energy left in his tiny frame, his eyes seemed to beg for a kindness he’d never truly known.

Right now, Buddy's condition is touch-and-go and he is being monitored around the clock. His blood sugar remains dangerously low and he remains on IV support, as well as getting fed carefully every three hours to avoid refeeding syndrome—a deadly risk for those starved to this extreme. And it’s exactly why the team is working so slowly and meticulously—making sure he gets exactly what he needs without putting him in more danger.

One will NEVER understand why anyone could turn their backs' on this poor boy, or why hunger gripped him so mercilessly. Yet now, for the first time, Buddy is FINALLY in loving hands. Now, he has people who believe in his resilience, his spirit, and his will to live.

Despite everything he’s been through, Buddy is a fighter. The road ahead will be long and fraught with challenges, but Buddy deserves nothing less than our full effort. He’s already survived the darkest side of humanity. With your help, he can finally experience its best. Update 12/12/24:
When we first got to him, poor Buddy was so skinny and frail that you could see each bone in his body. Poor guy had been deteriorating away for months because he just kept getting ignored. He was also anemic and needed a blood transfusion, but after several days of hospitalization, he’s on the right track!

He recently underwent a vet check up and things are looking up: bloodwork, weight, everything’s headed in the right direction. He promptly fell asleep after entertaining the whole lobby on our way out, and naturally, everyone loved him! We discovered he howls like a beagle when he gets excited—it's such a joy watching him figure out who he is and what he loves!
