My husband had a German Shorthaired Pointer as a little boy and remembered the dog fondly. After losing his lab mix of 15 years in October of 2017, my husband swore he’d never get another dog, feeling unable to go through that kind of loss again but Budweiser “Buddy” Elsperman was born on November 20th, 2019, 3 days after my husband’s 45th birthday. In early February of 2020, Buddy joined us!

Buddy is our baby and the light of our lives! He is so smart, energetic yet gentle and loving. We have another dog named Sonny, an Australian Cattle Dog and he is 2 months older than Buddy. They love to play together and also snuggle us. We are a closely bonded family and we also have a 3 year old male cat. My stepson is 8 and when he stays with us he loves napping with Buddy.

We love Buddy with all of our hearts but the surgery isn’t inexpensive. It will be $3,300 for his right shoulder and an additional $500 for the left if that is needed. It has already cost $470 for the diagnoses. Due to COVID19 my husband has had to change careers completely.

On Friday, May 15th after 2 days of limping an X-Ray found out that Buddy has Osteochondritis Dissecans in my right shoulder and on Wednesday, May 20th a veterinary surgeon confirmed that I will need to have an operation to remove the diseased cartilage. If left untreated Buddy could end up lame. The surgery is to be performed at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland, Florida.

Buddy is not a barker but he has the sweetest baby cry when left alone - he truly is so loyal to us. He takes his fetch game extremely seriously and gets frustrated with any dogs that get in the way of it. He has the cutest way of licking peanut butter off of a spoon and he has a special Fox toy from his grandpa that he never tears apart.
