About this campaign
Buttercup was pulled from the euthanasia list of another shelter but the fight for her life is still far from over.
As a 10 year old, tiny 9 pound Yorkie-Poo she should have been living a comfortable life. Instead, she was found as a stray in heartbreaking condition. When she was picked up, she smelled strongly of urine and her coat was visibly neglected.
As she was being cleaned up, rescuers discovered something much more concerning. Buttercup has a hard mass on her leg about the size of a silver dollar.
She was rushed to the vet, where X-rays brought a small sense of relief. The mass is not attached to the bone, which means it can be removed. However, it is suspected to be a soft tissue sarcoma, and time is critical.
Right now, Buttercup is stable and able to walk normally, but that stability depends on urgent intervention. She is being monitored closely as the next steps in her care are planned. Surgery will be necessary, and we need to move as quickly as possible to give her the best chance at recovery.
Buttercup is safe, clean, cared for, and surrounded by people committed to helping her heal.
But they cannot do this without our support.
Her surgery and medical care will be extensive, and funding is urgently needed moving forward.
Buttercup has already been through so much. Now she deserves a real chance.
7/25/26 Update
It is with broken hearts that we share an update we never wanted to write.
Buttercup's condition suddenly took a devastating turn, and we had to rush her to the emergency veterinary hospital. Despite everyone's best efforts, it became clear that she was suffering far more than anyone could have anticipated.
The kindest and most compassionate gift we could give her was peace.
Surrounded by love, Buttercup was humanely euthanized to end her suffering.
This was not the outcome we were expecting, and we are absolutely heartbroken. Just days ago, we were hopeful that surgery would give Buttercup the second chance she deserved. Instead, her condition progressed in a way that no one could have predicted.
Although her time with us was far too short, we take comfort in knowing that Buttercup's final days were filled with love, warmth, and compassion instead of fear and neglect. She left this world knowing she was safe, cherished, and surrounded by people who fought for her until the very end.
To everyone who donated, shared her story, sent kind words, or simply kept Buttercup in your thoughts, thank you. Your support allowed us to act immediately when she needed emergency care most and ensured that every decision was made with her comfort and dignity at the forefront.
Please keep our team in your thoughts as we grieve the loss of this sweet little girl. Buttercup deserved so much more, and we will never forget her.
