Calpurnia is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in Oakland, NJ, who needs $1,500 for surgery.

This sweet 6-month-old kitten has already endured more than most do in a lifetime. Calpurnia was found limping through the streets of Paterson and was picked up by animal control. She was then brought to safety by Ramapo-Bergen Animal Rescue—just in time.

After getting her checked out, X-rays revealed a devastating femoral fracture and a severe infection. Her leg was so swollen the vet couldn’t even feel the break. Emergency surgery was the only option. Unfortunately, her leg had to be amputated to save her life.

They may never know what caused her injury, but what they do know is that Calpurnia is pure love. Through it all, she’s been kneading biscuits, purring, and meowing sweetly for attention. She’s finally safe, out of pain, and surrounded by care—and she knows it. Calpurnia is one of six cats they rescued at the same time from their local animal control. Each one has a story, but Calpurnia’s spirit reminds them why they fight so hard for these animals each day.

Update 4/17/25 Calpurnia is now safe, healing beautifully, and thriving in a loving foster home. Her infection is finally subsiding, and it looks like she won’t need additional surgery. She’s purring, making biscuits, and even traded her plastic e-collar for a soft, cozy one gifted by her amazing foster family.
