I adopted Canela in March 2021. She made me a dog mom for the first time. She is so sweet and intuitive but also a medically complex case. Canela has experienced ongoing GI and liver-related issues requiring frequent veterinary care and repeated hospitalizations. I love her very much! I want more than anything for her to have improved quality of life.

Recent lab testing has shown significant liver abnormalities, including an ALT of 918 and an AST of 155. Also, an ALP of 263 and a GGT of 46. An abdominal CT performed this February showed a small, irregular liver with abnormal texture. A veterinary internal medicine specialist from Thrive Miami Hospital has recommended liver and intestinal biopsies as a medically necessary next step.

Canela is a sweet, quiet, and loving companion who has been by my side through some of the most difficult years of my life, navigating my own health issues while working as a bedside nurse on a high acuity unit during the pandemic. I have continued pursuing answers for her because she deserves the opportunity to receive the diagnosis and treatment she needs.

I am recently unemployed and I do not have pet insurance. I am a single owner of Canela also independently managing household and medical expenses. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
