About 2 years ago my wife Abby and I were leaving work and saw 20 vultures gathered around a tree. I ran over to disperse the vultures thinking that there must be an animal near by. We were right. Out walked a tiny black kitten, tail straight up, headed straight toward me. We were in love instantly. He had a sister that we found as well, so we brought them both home with us.

Since rescuing Captain he loves to cuddle. He will follow you around until you stop to pick him up. He also loves going for walks in the stroller, and enjoying the view from our patio. When he was younger and healthier he loved chasing his sister around the apartment! Now he enjoys more stationary things, like lying down and swatting at toys (and his sister). He loves sleeping in bed with us also.

This situation with Captain was unexpected. We have been saving money to help with any issues our cats might have, but $9,000 is very much out of our range. We will do anything to keep our Captain alive! He is our world, and we will keep trying everything to help him!

After we rescued Captain he was taken in for x-rays because he wasn’t keeping any food down. We were told that something was blocking his throat and there is nothing we can do. It’s 18 months later and he is very ill. He has a vascular ring anomaly, anemia, weighs 3 pounds, and they think he might have muscular dystrophy. He is at UF small animal hospital being treated by Dr. Groover.

Captain came into our life as a blessing. I work nights, so he was my wife’s little buddy that kept her safe. He listens to commands like “sit” “shake” and “come”. He is a very smart cat, that never missed catching a bug in our apartment. He honestly is the sweetest animal I have ever met. He also LOVED curling into a little ball and sleeping with us at night.
