Caramel Macchiato is a 5-year-old Domestic Shorthair Cat in Philadelphia, PA, who needs $1,000 for Abdominal X-rays and IV Fluid Administration.

Caramel came to me on May 2020. She was, as the shelter worker who helped me adopt her, a certified "Covid kitty." However, I did not adopt her due to the pandemic. 2020 just happened to be the year where I was ready to open my heart again for another furry friend after my childhood pet Brownie passed away in 2018. Caramel and I live in an apartment with lots of windows for her to watch the city.

Caramel loves to be the center of attention! No laptop or tablet is safe from her blocking the screen for pets. She loves her cat tree and enjoys chasing puff balls and mouse toys. Her favorite places to snooze is my bed, though I have also been forced to design "sleep corners" so she doesn't interrupt a Zoom call. (which she has been guilty of doing!)

Caramel is a diva, first and foremost! When she is healthy, she frequently will pester me for attention. When she was at the shelter, she was extremely withdrawn. I was initially prepared to have a more distant cat. But I am so thankful that she felt comfortable enough to break out of her shell. I wouldn't trade her vivacious and cutely demanding personality for the world.

On 2/13/23, Caramel began to show signs of intestinal distress. She was vomiting frequently, and wasn't eating or drinking. After seeing her condition get worse, I rushed her to an emergency veterinary hospital in Philly for emergency treatment. Caramel was given x-rays and IV fluids to stabilize her condition. Thankfully, she did not have an intestinal blockage.

The cost of the emergency room visit has severely impacted my financial situation. As someone who just finished grad school, the expense has definitely made things a lot harder. Despite that, I wish to try my best to make my kitty healthy again. I miss her healthy self!
