Carla came into our lives about 3 years ago when she was about 12 weeks old. We adopted her from our neighbor after pet-sitting on a number of occasions, and since then Carla and my son have become best buds. She is a tan Chihuahua (chiweenie, maybe?) and is the spitting image of my last dog Carl (hence her name).

Carla will gladly nap in her kennel all day, and waits patiently for the sun to shine through the window so she can bask in the sun. Could she sleep in her own bed at night? Sure. Will I continue to let her snuggle under my blankets or curl up behind my knees at bedtime? I sure will. Carla tends to follow me around the house, mostly because she knows I'm the one in charge of food distribution.

I have worked very hard saving and rebuilding my credit this past year after all of the financial hits we experienced in 2020. However despite working two jobs, I do not have enough money in my emergency funds to cover such a sudden expense.

Carla fell while running up stairs and fractured her shoulder on 7/16. After taking her to the ER, we were told she would need orthopedic surgery. When I expressed concern over the cost, a number of vet hospitals suggested amputation. I contacted over a dozen vets throughout the area, I was finally found a surgeon who went over all of our options and said amputation would not be necessary.

There are times she drives me nuts (like when she pulls the covers off me in the morning, or chews on my earrings) but then she pops up one ear and all is forgiven. She likes to yell at me when I bring her to work, since she knows I'll give a treat to get her to shut up in front of clients. Carla is such a sweet dog, and she has a way of charming everyone she meets.
