Caru is a 13-year-old Beagle, Yorkie, and Chihuahua mix, from a litter of ten. My sister and I each kept one puppy—Caru and her sister Stella Bea (Deli). Caru’s name means “love” in Welsh. She splits her time between my parents’ house, where she has her sister Deli, and my boyfriend’s house, where she has her brother Bubba.

Caru was treated at South Sacramento Pet Hospital, where she had surgery on her ear last November. Unfortunately, the issue has grown back, she now needs a second surgery to stop the pain and prevent infection. She scratches her ear constantly, which causes bleeding, so we have to clean it daily and keep her in a cone. The vets confirmed this procedure is necessary to help her feel better again.

Caru is incredibly special. She’s gentle, loyal, and loves being around her people—whether visiting her Gama and Gampa, going on hikes, sunbathing, or joining me on the paddleboard. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her. My boyfriend even calls her his daughter. She’s touched my life, my family’s lives, and truly everyone she’s ever met.

I’m currently not working while I focus on my schooling, which has made finances really tight. Covering Caru’s surgery on my own isn’t possible right now. Having her healthy again would mean everything to me and give her the comfort she deserves.
