Champion’s Story: From Chains to Hope

About this campaign
Champion was discovered in his own backyard, but it was far from being a true home. He was cruelly bound in chains and rope, left to suffer alone. At only four months old, he had been denied everything a puppy deserves: food, safety, comfort, and love. Ravaged by mange, weak from hunger, and covered in wounds, he had been discarded like trash by the very people meant to protect him. Thankfully, a passerby spotted him and called authorities, who then got in contact with Safe Haven Rescue of MS.
Now safely under the care of Safe Haven Rescue of MS, Champion is being treated by the dedicated team at Animal Medical Center. His tiny body is still fighting to recover from the trauma: severe demodex mange, open sores from the chains, and dangerous infections brought on by neglect. He arrived malnourished, dehydrated, and in critical condition, but thanks to IV fluids, antibiotics, and careful monitoring, he’s finally stabilizing. He’s not out of the woods yet, but for the first time in his life, he’s getting the care he so badly needs.
Despite the pain he’s endured, Champion is the definition of resilience. His tail now wags with excitement, and his eyes shine with gratitude. He melts into gentle hands, his body finally relaxing into comfort. He’s free from the chains that once held him back and he knows it. But one serious concern remains: he still has no feeling in one of his legs. It’s unclear whether it can be saved, and we’re working closely with our vet team to explore every option.
Champion’s journey has already inspired so many, but he still has a long way to go and he can’t do it alone. His care is extensive, and vet bills are rising fast. Please consider donating to support Champion’s recovery. Every dollar brings us closer to healing his body and giving him the future he’s always deserved: one filled with love, safety, and second chances.
Update 05/12
Champion has been recovering in a foster home and his case is promising! At first recovery was very slow and we were not holding out too much hope the leg could be saved. Thanks to his wonderful foster and vet care though, Champion has begun to use the leg more and more each day. He is running and playing in the backyard and loves to go for walks! His care is ongoing, but we are just so thankful to see this improvement. Please consider helping Champ during his recovery.
