About this campaign

When we first spotted Chance at a community cat colony, she was sitting alone with one eye completely crusted shut. She looked exhausted, sick, and defeated. The colony caretaker warned us that Chance was feral and couldn't be handled. But when we approached her, she didn't run. Instead, this frightened little cat was so sick that she simply allowed herself to be picked up and placed into a carrier, as if she knew this might be her only opportunity for help.

We rushed Chance to the veterinarian, hoping her condition could be treated with medication and that she could eventually return to her colony. Testing revealed that she was battling calicivirus, a contagious viral infection that can cause painful respiratory symptoms, mouth ulcers, and eye problems.

Despite weeks of antibiotics, eye drops, and intensive treatment, her eye continued to deteriorate. Then came the devastating news. A veterinary ophthalmologist discovered that the lesion in Chance's eye had become dangerously deep and was threatening both her vision and the eye itself. Without immediate intervention, she could lose it entirely. Her only chance was emergency corneal graft surgery.

The procedure was expensive, and as a small rescue, we weren't sure how we would afford it. But we couldn't turn our backs on her. Chance had fought too hard to give up now. We said yes. The surgery was successful, and after weeks of recovery and round-the-clock medications, Chance kept her eye and retained her vision. But her battle wasn't over.

Once her eye stabilized, veterinarians discovered she was suffering from severe stomatitis, a painful inflammatory condition that was making it difficult for her to eat and live comfortably. Despite our hopes of saving some of her teeth, the disease was so advanced that a full-mouth extraction became necessary. After another major surgery and a brief setback involving infection and inflammation, Chance finally began to feel better.

Today, this incredible cat is thriving. She plays. She eats comfortably. She gains weight. She enjoys life. For the first time in a very long time, Chance is living without constant pain.

Unfortunately, her medical journey came at a significant cost. Between diagnostics, specialist consultations, emergency eye surgery, medications, dental surgery, and follow-up care, her treatment has totaled nearly $3,000.

Chance may have started out as a feral colony cat that many people would have overlooked, but we saw a cat worth fighting for. Now we're asking for your help.

Your donation will help cover Chance's outstanding veterinary expenses and allow us to continue rescuing cats facing medical emergencies just like hers.

Every gift, no matter the size, helps give vulnerable cats the second chance they deserve. Please donate today and help us continue saying "yes" when the next Chance comes along.

7/8/26 Update

We wanted to share an update on our precious girl, Chance. We're happy to say that, overall, Chance has been doing wonderfully and continues to bring so much joy to everyone around her. She has fully embraced the good life and absolutely loves her automatic butterfly toy, happily batting and chasing it for hours at a time. Seeing her play so carefree is a beautiful reminder of just how far she's come since being rescued.

Chance also remains incredibly close to her colony mate, Patriot. They came into our rescue together, and we're so grateful they've been able to stay by each other's side. She still insists on eating next to him, follows him wherever he goes, and has even made friends with the other foster kitties. Watching them all play together is a heartwarming sight that reminds us why every rescue is worth the fight.

Unfortunately, over the past few days, we've noticed that Chance has been meowing much more than usual and seems uncomfortable. Because of these changes, she'll be heading back to the veterinarian for an examination. Given her history of severe stomatitis and previous infections, we're concerned that she may be experiencing inflammation or another complication, and we want to address it as quickly as possible before it becomes more serious.

Please keep Chance in your thoughts as we work to get answers and make sure she's comfortable again. We're hopeful that this is something that can be treated quickly so she can get back to enjoying her toys, her friends, and the happy, pain-free life she fought so hard to achieve.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in Chance and making her incredible journey possible. Your compassion has given her a second chance at life, and we're forever grateful.

If you're able, please consider making a donation to help cover Chance's ongoing veterinary care. Every gift helps provide the examinations, diagnostics, medications, and treatment she may need while also allowing us to continue rescuing other vulnerable cats facing medical emergencies. Together, we can ensure Chance—and so many others like her—continue to receive the care they deserve.

7/12/26 Update

Chance continues to do well and enjoys the comfort and love of her foster home. She has come such a long way from the frightened, sick colony cat we first rescued, and seeing her happy, playful, and surrounded by friends is something we're incredibly grateful for.

As with many cats who have overcome serious medical challenges, Chance still requires ongoing veterinary monitoring to make sure she stays healthy and comfortable. Her rescue journey didn't end with her surgeries, and we remain committed to providing her with whatever care she needs to continue thriving.

We're so thankful to everyone who has supported Chance along the way. Your kindness gave her the opportunity to receive lifesaving treatment, recover from years of pain, and experience the life every cat deserves.

If you're able to help, please consider making a donation to support Chance's continued veterinary care. Every contribution helps cover follow-up visits, diagnostics, medications, and any future treatment she may need. Your generosity also allows us to say "yes" to the next vulnerable cat who arrives needing urgent medical care.
