About this campaign
I wanted a companion for my husband who is diagnosed with Alzheimers in order to keep him active and bring some joy to our lives. We wanted to adopt a dog. We were fortunate to have had an opportunity to rescue Charlie. Charlie was from China where he was stolen from his family and put in a slaughterhouse. He is only 3 years old and has had a rough start to his life.
Charlie has become the love of our lives. We never had a dog so affectionate before. My husband does everything with him. He loves taking him on walks, playing ball and just having someone to snuggle with. He is a sweetheart with my grandchildren and everyone that meets him falls in love. Charlie loves to sleep in and snuggle with us whenever he can.
Due to my husbands diagnosis, he is currently unable to work. We already are struggling to make ends meets as it is each month. We can't imagine life without Charlie. We are distraught over this accident and know surgery will be the best option for him.
Unbenowst to us, these types of dogs that have short legs and long bodies can \be more susceptible to disc disease. Charlie always jumped on and off our couch(which is very low) with no problem at all. He fell off the couch causing a spinal cord injury paralyzing his back legs. The prognosis isn't good without surgery. The facility he is at is Guardian Veterinary Specialists. Brewster, NY.
Charlie is special because he is very protective of us and the most affectionate dog we have ever had. He has given my husband and I so much joy as we deal with his diagnosis of alzheimers. My husband and I recently had major surgeries and he was always right by our side and always made sure we were ok.
