About this campaign
My family and I rescued Charlie after he was discarded by a breeder because he's not the "right color" for a Great Dane. We've had him for four years, and he has been a true gift. He's physically huge, of course, but so is his personality and the amount of love in his heart. He's literally what keeps me, my husband, our two kids and our two other rescue dogs happy and sane.
Charlie is only four years old, and he has acute pneumonia. He has been at Pender Veterinary Hospital in Nothern Virginia for the last five days. We have been told that he is likely to make a FULL RECOVERY if we can provide him with 24 hour a day care for the next 5-7 days, which includes IV antibiotics and continuous oxygen at a cost of $2,000 a day.
From the day we adopted Charlie, he has been glued to someone in our house. I can't even remember the last time I went to the bathroom without him! And now I refuse to leave him. He's already been at the vet hospital for five days, and I haven't left his side. We've run through our emergency fund of $14,000, and we have nowhere else to turn.
We're not rich people - I work in the government, and my husband provides mental health counseling to kids for Farifax County government. Please help - I don't think we could live with ourselves if Charlie died just because we couldn't afford five more days of care.
