Meet Cheddar — The Gentle, Toy-Loving Doberman Who Just Needs Time, Safety, and a Little Help

Cheddar’s life before rescue is a mystery — but what we do know is that this 8-month-old Doberman has already spent far too much of his short life feeling scared, alone, and unseen. He was picked up as a stray and sat at a local shelter for over a month. That’s a long time for any dog, but for a frightened young pup, it’s an eternity. Thankfully, This Is Houston stepped in and pulled him to safety

Even though people are scary to him right now, Cheddar lights up around other dogs. He’s silly and endlessly playful — especially with toys. He’ll gather toys around him and then try to convince the other dogs to play with him. And once he discovered what a backyard was, that was a total game changer. Now he zooms, explores, and enjoys his freedom in ways he never could at the shelter.

His quirky underbite only adds to his charm — it’s pure Cheddar personality. Cheddar was recently neutered and thankfully tested heartworm negative. During playtime, he suffered a small puncture wound above his eye that required two vet visits. Combined with his neuter surgery, vaccines, parasite testing, medications, and ongoing care, his medical expenses have grown quickly.

Cheddar is a puppy who has never truly known safety — but he’s trying so hard to trust the world. With your help, he can continue his medical care, work with behavior support as needed, and stay in a stable, loving foster home until he’s ready for his forever family.
