Cheese's body was covered in wounds, and chunks of his hair were missing.

Animal control officers weren't sure if Cheese was attacked by another animal or what horrors he endured.

But with your help, the Determined to Rise Animal Foundation will ensure that Cheese never experiences pain like this again.

The nonprofit group rushed Cheese to an animal hospital. He was in such heartbreaking shape that a veterinary team performed exploratory surgery--only to discover his wounds were worse than initially thought.

"They discovered the rubber stapled to his head covered a very deep canyon of a wound that went from the top of his head into his ear canal," Amanda S., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "His leg was also severely injured. His biggest battles are the resulting infections."

Cheese has proven to be the most resilient, brave, and determined cat the rescue has ever taken in. There is no exaggeration in those words.

His case is complex and severe, yet he continues to prove each day he chooses to live.

Cheese is social, loving, cuddly, and never stops purring. His wonderful demeanor has made everyone fall in love with him.
