We have some wonderful news to share about Chico!

Nearly all of the burns he suffered after being intentionally set on fire have healed beautifully. There is just one small wound remaining that is still being treated and monitored by our veterinary team, but everything else has healed incredibly well. We are so grateful to see how far this sweet boy has come.

Today, Chico is honestly just like a big dog! He knows his name, comes running when he’s called, is right there ready for every meal, and the entire staff absolutely adores him.

He also has a best friend, a senior donkey named Apolo, whom we rescued about five years ago in critical condition. The two are inseparable, and it’s incredibly special to see the bond they’ve formed over the years.

Because of your kindness, Chico is now living the peaceful life he always deserved. He spends his days surrounded by love, safety, good food, and people who cherish him every single day.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. None of this would have been possible without you. You gave Chico a second chance at life, and because of your compassion, he is able to spend his golden years surrounded by love, safety, and peace. We will be forever grateful.

About this campaign

Chico’s body was engulfed in flames, and whoever did this to him simply walked away. This helpless donkey was left screaming in agony, suffering unimaginable burns and pain until a desperate call for help brought him to safety.

When we reached Chico, the damage was devastating. His body was covered in severe burns and open wounds. Even breathing causes him pain. He can barely move, is dangerously dehydrated, severely anemic, and physically exhausted from fighting to survive. And heartbreakingly, the fire was not the only sign of suffering. Veterinarians discovered old injuries, chronic neglect, and a previously broken tail that healed improperly—proof that Chico has endured cruelty for far too long.

Right now, Chico is receiving emergency veterinary care including IV fluids, pain medication, antibiotics, wound treatment, ozone therapy, bandage changes, and constant monitoring. His burns require repeated daily treatment, and his recovery will take weeks to months of intensive medical support. Without this care, Chico will not survive.

We are a small 501(c)(3) rescue with no government funding, and the cost of saving Chico is far beyond what we can manage alone.

Please help us give Chico a chance to heal from the unimaginable.

Your donation will provide:
