About this campaign

Meet Chimbo, a gentle senior about 12 years old who has long been known as the mellow “grandpa” of his neighborhood. He’s wandered the streets for years, quietly winning hearts wherever he goes. Everyone knows him. Everyone likes him. But despite all that kindness, Chimbo has never had a family to call his own.

Now, after a lifetime of surviving on his own, his body is asking for help. Chimbo is suffering from severe, chronic ulcerative skin lesions and painful ear infections that have already caused hematomas and ongoing discomfort. His skin is sensitive, he tires easily, and he needs consistent care — something street life simply can’t provide.

The team at Amici Cannis stepped in to give this sweet soul a chance. There’s even someone interested in adopting him — which is wonderful news — but they don’t have the financial means to cover the diagnostics and treatment he urgently needs. To truly help Chimbo, veterinarians must perform important diagnostics, including biopsies and cultures, to determine the underlying cause of his chronic skin disease. They also need to rule out possible hormonal imbalances that could be contributing to his condition. These tests are critical — once the cause is identified, his care team can create a targeted treatment plan to relieve his pain and dramatically improve his quality of life.

In addition to the initial testing, Chimbo will likely need ongoing care, including medicated baths, daily treatments, and potential monthly follow-ups. With proper medical support, he could finally leave the streets behind and settle into the loving home that’s already waiting for him.

Despite everything he’s endured, Chimbo remains a total sweetheart. He greets the world with quiet kindness, asking for little more than comfort, relief, and a soft bed to rest his tired bones.

💛 Your donation will help fund the diagnostics needed to understand Chimbo’s condition

🐾 Your support will help start his treatment and give him lasting relief

🏡 Your generosity could be the final step toward getting him off the streets for good

After 12 years of wandering, Chimbo deserves more than survival — he deserves comfort, care, and a family to love him. Every dollar brings this gentle grandpa closer to the peaceful, happy life he’s waited so long to find.

4/28/26 Update

We are overjoyed to share that Chimbo’s story has turned into exactly the kind of ending every senior street dog deserves.

This sweet old gentleman could not be happier — his skin is healing beautifully, his discomfort is improving, and most importantly, he is no longer facing life alone on the streets.

Chimbo has officially found his forever home in the hearts and home of Amici Cannis founders, Drs. Heather and Phillip Steyn.

After spending years wandering as the beloved “grandpa” of the neighborhood, Chimbo is now living the good life surrounded by warmth, safety, and companionship. He spends his days alongside the family’s other dogs and enjoys something he likely never had before: a soft, comfortable bed to call his own.

And for an extra dose of sweetness, Chimbo has formed an especially adorable bond with his new best friend, Meneer, who has graciously decided to share his favorite bed. Meneer even patiently allows sleepy Chimbo to step all over him while getting settled — proof that true friendship comes in the fluffiest forms.

From lonely streets to soft beds, loving hands, and lifelong companionship… this is the happy ending your generosity helped make possible.

Chimbo does still require medicated baths and ongoing medication to keep his chronic skin condition under control, so he visits the hospital regularly for continued care. The good news is that he has quickly become a favorite among the veterinary team — though anyone who has met Chimbo knows he has always had a way of winning hearts.

Because of your donations, Chimbo was given more than medical treatment. He was given relief. He was given security. He was given a family.

Thank you for helping this gentle senior finally experience the comfort, love, and peace he waited so many years to find.
