Chungus came to us in storybook kind of way.
We took our husky/lab mix, Nunu, to a local shelter for some play dates. She met with a few and stayed to herself the whole time. Cue Chungus, stage left. He was just walking out of a vet exam when we saw him. Scrawny and underweight, Nunu had finally taken an interest in someone.
After instantly becoming best friends, Nunu had made our decision easy.

Chungus has a growth that, although was hidden by his fur, has been growing for a few months.
He recently went to the vet and they took a sample and said it was most likely a fatty tumor and had arranged for surgery to remove it. During the surgery the vet realized it was more intense than a simple fatty tumor.
They sent a sample to BluePearl and the results came back as a grade 2 sarcoma.

At 115lbs, Chungus still thinks of himself as a lap dog. Always looking for the next head rub or ear scratch.
Chungus and Nunu are inseparable. His recent visits to the vet without her have left her confused being home alone. She will whine nonstop until he walks back through the door. He's her protector from thunderstorms. And she's his pillow during snuggle time.

The current estimate is $20,000. I never expected to hear a number like that when this process started.
We've been trying to save to purchase our first home, but haven't been able to make much progress. Now all of that will barely put a dent in his medical expenses.
