About this campaign

When animal control in rural Kentucky received a call about a dog lying motionless in an open field, no one knew what they were about to find.

There, alone in the grass, was Clover — a young two-year-old dog who hadn’t moved, hadn’t stood, and hadn’t been able to escape whatever nightmare had happened to her. She was alive... but barely hanging on.

As officers approached, the devastating truth became clear: Clover could not walk, could not stand, and could not bear weight on her back end. Then they saw the wound — a bullet entry in her back flank. Someone had shot her. We may never know who did this to her, how long she suffered there in silence, or how long she laid in that field waiting for help that might never come. But Clover survived long enough to be found.

And now we have a chance to change the ending of her story. This rural Kentucky shelter has no funding for major medical care, so they reached out to us in desperation, asking if we could take responsibility for this sweet girl before it was too late. We said yes.

Clover was rushed immediately to the veterinarian, where X-rays confirmed every heartbreaking suspicion: bullet fragments are still lodged inside her body, and the gunshot shattered her pelvis — leaving her unable to stand or walk on her own.

As if the pain from being shot wasn’t enough, Clover is also battling multiple untreated medical conditions from prolonged neglect. She tested positive for Lyme disease, Ehrlichia canis, and is suffering from hookworms, meaning her little body is trying to fight infection, parasites, trauma, and severe orthopedic injury all at once.

Despite everything she has endured, Clover has remained gentle, quiet, and trusting. She has not given up. So neither can we.

Right now Clover needs:

\\\\- Emergency pain management - Surgical consultation and orthopedic care for her fractured pelvis - Removal/monitoring of retained bullet fragments - Treatment for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia - Deworming and supportive hospitalization - Ongoing rehabilitation so she can hopefully walk again

Her road to recovery will not be short, and it will not be inexpensive — but Clover deserves the chance to heal after surviving such cruelty.

No dog should be shot and discarded like she didn’t matter. Today, we are asking you to show Clover that her life does matter.

Your donation will go directly toward the lifesaving diagnostics, treatment, medication, and rehabilitation she urgently needs. Every single dollar helps us get this broken girl one step closer to standing again. Please donate if you can, and share Clover’s story far and wide.

Because the field where she was left was supposed to be where her life ended. Together, we can make it where her second chance begins.

7/25/26 Update

What a journey Clover has been on. When Clover was first found lying motionless in a field after being shot, we didn't know if she would ever walk again. X-rays revealed a shattered pelvis with bullet fragments still lodged in her body, and she was also battling Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, hookworms, and the effects of prolonged neglect. Despite the unimaginable pain she had endured, Clover never stopped showing us her gentle spirit.

Today, we're overjoyed to share that Clover's story has the happy ending she always deserved. After spending six weeks hospitalized at Ashland Animal Clinic on strict crate rest, Clover's pelvis healed beautifully. Against the odds, she made a complete physical recovery.

While her body had healed, we knew there were emotional wounds that still needed time and patience. Based on everything we learned about her past, it was clear Clover had experienced significant trauma. She was unsure around other dogs and needed help building confidence and learning that the world could be a safe place. To give her the very best chance at a successful future, Clover attended an intensive four-week board-and-train program. It turned out to be exactly what she needed. She blossomed.

Clover learned new skills, gained confidence, made canine friends, and discovered how wonderful life could be when surrounded by kindness instead of cruelty. Watching her personality emerge after everything she had survived was nothing short of incredible.

And now for the best news of all... Clover has been adopted!

The frightened dog who was left for dead in a field has found the loving forever family she always deserved. Her story could have ended the day someone chose cruelty, but because of compassionate supporters like you, it became a story of healing, resilience, and hope instead.

Your donations made every step of this journey possible—from emergency veterinary care and hospitalization to rehabilitation, behavioral training, and ultimately preparing Clover for her forever home. Because of your generosity, a dog who had every reason to lose trust in the world was given the opportunity to start over.

From all of us, and from Clover's new family, thank you for believing that her life was worth saving. You didn't just help heal her broken body—you gave her the future every dog deserves.
